How Does the Ouija Board Work

For a game sold on toy store shelves many people claim that the Ouija Board is in fact a tool of the devil, with his dark minions waiting on the other side to posses you. Others believe that it is simply a case of automatism, the users subconscious mind spelling out messages without the conscious mind being aware of what it is doing.

Those are basically the two extremes of the idea on what is happening when you sit down to use the Ouija Board, with many variotions in between.

Spiritually inclined people tend to believe that the board puts them in contact with either the spirits of the dead or otherworldly type beings such as Spirits, Angels and even Demons. This is perhaps the most widely held belief and it has been around for centuries.

More recently scientific thought on the process has put forward the idea that it is simply an action performed by the user without their conscious intention or even awareness. Michael Faraday, noted 19th century scientist, was among the first to propose the idea with a series of experiments on Table Rapping.

Somewhere in the middle is the theory that the board is merely a tool for enhancing ones own psychic ability. Wether or not this includes the ability to contact spirits or is aiding a natural physical ability like the sense of sight or smell is up to each individual user to decide.
